Asifa Bano and Dadaji
Khobragade.
When the heinous act
happened to Asifa, whole nation felt it's grief. Everyone wanted to show
dissent in one form or another, and it is needed to do so. We can't let such
things get repeated every time.
Many people stood for
her in different manner, some held protest some angered out through write ups,
some made YouTube videos etc.
Back in Nagpur the
people from our group wanted to organize a protest, so I started talking to
various groups and NGOs about their plans and stuff, as we thought it would be
much better to have a inclusive protest rather than organizing many small
protests throughout the city. To my surprise most of them didn't
want to come together, everyone wanted to have it under the banner of their
group or NGO. I was like "Are we doing it for the Asifa or just to hog some media coverage?" In another case, many news and entertainment
portals wrote articles, did interviews, made some videos about the inhuman act
and then they sponsored (we have to pay to social media to promote our post )
it on Social Media. It's a very cheap and disgusting way to increase your reach
in digital world. By doing this we are not standing up for Asifa, neither we
are condemning the act we are just milking the opportunity for some cheap
publicity.
Yesterday Dadaji
Khobragade passed away. In his lifetime he invented several variety of Paddy
which are very popular in Central India. From past few years he was not keeping
well, many people whom I know personally are helping Dadaji and his family for
the sustenance. But I found neither of them boasting about it anywhere, whereas
there are some people trying so hard to show the world, that Dadaji and these
people were friends, how much they value the work of Dadaji, how they helped
Dadaji in bad times and so on.
If we really
understand the importance of Dadaji, why we were silent from so many days ? If
we knew the whole scenario why didn't we assist Dadaji's family? If we are so
grateful, why didn't we provide some sustainable solutions for Dadaji's sustenance?
Every organisation and Public figure needs proper
media coverage and PR, but we should at least refrain ourselves from cashing on
someone's demise.
Different
circumstances, different stories, but the same greed of being in limelight at
any cost.
#Shame
You are right. Most NGOs selectively choose whom they want to support and how they can stay in limelight.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Sad part is most of the NGOs make social issues their cash cow.
